The human body is undoubtedly a true work of art. Silently, most of the time without us realizing it, it works diligently to keep us healthy and energized as we breathe. Every day, our body requires care, nutrition, physical exercise, and healthy habits to help us take care of and better maintain our physical and mental health.

Women, by exception, go through unique processes. Every month, the female body is prepared to generate new life, to create a new human being. In summary, this process is divided into phases: the follicular phase, ovulatory phase, and luteal phase. Reading it may seem like a simple and easy process, but it is not. Some of us go through this process monthly due to hormonal changes occurring in our bodies to fulfill it. Some of us face consequences such as mood swings (PMS), anxiety, sadness, migraines, back pain, breast tenderness, cramps/period pain, among other discomforts that we deal with day by day.

Embracing the complexities of the female menstrual cycle is crucial to promoting women's health and cultivating a deeper understanding of our bodies. By recognizing and respecting the natural rhythm of this cyclical process, women can empower themselves to navigate through the various phases with greater ease and well-being.

In this article, I bring to your attention, women, a vocabulary focused on this topic.

  • Period, Menstrual cycle, or Monthly Cycle: is the physiological process in which the lining of the uterus is shed, usually occurring every 28 days, marking the end of a menstrual cycle in the absence of pregnancy.
  • Period paid or menstrual cramps: refer to the lower abdominal pain that many women experience during their menstrual period, resulting from the contractions of the uterus to expel the uterine lining.
  • Premenstrual Syndrome: is a set of physical and emotional symptoms that some women experience in the days leading up to menstruation.
