Understand the Meme Cadeirada - Hit someone with a Chair

During an electoral debate on TV Cultura in São Paulo on September 15, presenter José Luiz Datena (PSDB) attacked candidate Pablo Marçal (PRTB) by hitting him with a chair. The incident occurred after an exchange of insults between the candidates, in which Marçal questioned Datena about his candidacy and made references to a sexual harassment complaint against him.

Datena, in response to Marçal's provocations, stated that his opponent was making slanderous accusations and, in a moment of anger, threw the chair. The attack led to the interruption of the debate and Datena's expulsion from the program. After the incident, Marçal went to the Sírio-Libanês Hospital and stated that he would file a police report for bodily harm and slander against Datena.

Datena, in turn, showed no remorse for the attack, claiming that it was a reaction to intense provocation and referring to Marçal as "a threat to the city of São Paulo". The episode generated significant repercussions in the media, both nationally and internationally, with outlets such as 'The Washington Post' and 'Clarín' highlighting the attack.
