An adverb is a word that describes or modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb. They provide additional information about how, when, where, why, or to what extent an action is performed.

Adverbs can also sometimes modify phrases, clauses, and even whole sentences.

Adverbs answer questions such as:

  • How? (-She sings angrily; - Of course it is a death metal band.)
  • When? (They will have arrived by tomorrow.)
  • Where? (They looked everywhere and could not find a good shawarma.)
  • To what extent? (They were completely surprised.)
